Rourkela: A man along with his son was mowed down by a speeding truck near Balughat on NH-143 in Sundergarh district last night.
The deceased have been identified as Munna Sethi and his son Sambhunath Sethi.
As per the report, the deceased duo was returning home by riding a bike after completing some work in a nearby village late in the night when the mishap took place. Driver of a speeding tipper which was coming from the opposite direction on the highway lost control over the wheels and ended up mowing them down from the front.
Tension prevailed in the area following the mishap as locals blocked the highway by burning tyres for several hours. Hundreds of vehicles remained stranded on both sides of the road due to the blockade.
Local police reached the spot later to remove the blockade and sent the bodies for autopsy.
An investigation is underway to trace the tipper driver who managed to escape from the spot following the accident.
