Members of the Mahanadi Water Disputes Tribunal visited Chipilima Hydro Electric Project site as part of field visit on Sunday

Sambalpur: Members of the Mahanadi Water Disputes Tribunal visited Chipilima Hydro Electric Project site as part of field visit on Sunday to study the ground situation.

As per reports, the tribunal is studying the situation on the ground amid the ongoing dispute between the Chhattisgarh and Odisha governments over the water of Mahanadi River.

The tribunal is headed by Justice AM Khanwilkar of the Supreme Court and the other members are Justices Dr Ravi Ranjan and Indermeet Kaur Kochhar of Patna and Delhi High Courts respectively.

The water resources dept officials of both Odisha and Chhattisgarh were present at the site. 

As per sources, the team will visit Chiplima Powerhouse, Attabira Branch Canal and Sasan Canal today. On May 22, the team will further visit Ib Thermal Power Station and dam project site in Jharsuguda and Sundargarh. On May 23, the tribunal will visit Upper Jonk dam site in Nuapada district.

The tribunal is scheduled to inspect at least 30 locations for the survey and the tour will continue till May 28 after which the members will leave for Delhi from Bhubaneswar.
