Cuttack: A labourer was killed after coming in contact with a high power transmission line at Jahnia Chhak near Kendupatana under Salipur police limits in Cuttack district on Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as Deepak Samal (27) of Kolanpur village under Nischintakoili police limits.
Deepak who worked as a mason was busy in a building construction work at Jahnia Chhak in the morning when unknowingly touched a low-hanging 33Kv electric wire and died of electrocution on the spot.
Fumed over the incident, angry locals staged a road blockade by keeping the body at Kendupatna Chhak on Cuttack-Chandbali road. They alleged the electricity department’s negligence for the mishap and burnt tyres.
Local Police rushed to the spot and tried to pacify the mob to restore traffic flow on the road.
