Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) have served show cause notices to the ISKCON Temple and Hotel Presidency managements for encroachment, unauthorised constructions and illegal parking.

“It has come to the notice that Hotel Presidency has unauthorisedly and illegally encroached the land earmarked for Right of Way adjoining NH-5. The Hotel is misutilising the said encroached land for parking of vehicles of the Hotel, discharging dirty water causing insanitary condition in the area and for installing a generator on the Government land adjoining the Hotel,” said the show cause notice issued to the Manager of Hotel Presidency.

“You are hereby noticed to show cause within 7 days of the receipt of this notice as to why suitable action shall not be taken against you under relevant provisions of the OMC Act, 2003 read with BMC Users Charges Regulation, 2015 and why penalty shall not be imposed for unauthorised parking of vehicles on ROW, discharging dirty water causing insanitary condition in the area and for installing a generator on the Government land adjoining the Hotel,” it further said.

The other show cause issued to the ISKCON Temple president by the city civic body mentions, “It has come to the notice that the ISKCON Temple has unauthorisedly and illegally encroached the land earmarked as Right of Way adjoining NH-5 and constructed shops thereon. Encroachment of the space also prevents flow of storm water and causes insanitary condition in the area.”

It also mentions, “You are hereby noticed to show cause as to why suitable action shall not be taken against you under Section 407 of the OMC Act, 2003 read with BMC Users Charges Regulation, 2015 for unauthorisedly encroaching and uitlising space reserved for ROW as shop rooms.”

BMC’s initiative to issue show cause notice came as it was strongly criticized from all quarters due to the massive water-logging on the National Highway near the ISKCON Temple and Hotel Presidency recently.
