Industrialist Mahima Mishra surrenders before Kujang court

Jagatsinghpur:  A day after the Supreme Court rejected his bail plea, leading industrialist of the state and Orissa Stevedores Limited (OSL) Managing Director Mahimananda Mishra aka Mahima Mishra surrendered before the court of JMFC in Kujang of Jagatsinghpur district in Odisha on Wednesday.

On July 16, the Orissa High Court had granted conditional bail to Mishra in connection with bomb hurling in Cuttack and Paradip firing cases.

However, the Odisha government had moved the apex court against the High Court verdict.

Hearing the petition, Justices Abhay Manohar Sapro and UU Lalit accepted the state government’s application and rejected the bail plea of the accused.

Notably, Mishra was arrested from Thailand in December 2016 for allegedly masterminding the murder of Mahendra Swain, a top executive of Hyderabad-based stevedoring company Seaways Shipping and Logistics Ltd, on October 26 the same year near Ambedkar Bhawan at Madhuban Colony in Paradip.

Similarly, a bomb was hurled at lawyer Abhay Bhatt near Press Chhak in Cuttack on September 21, 2013, in an alleged attempt to kill him.

Later, one Ganesh Sahu, during interrogation, had told police that the bomb was hurled at the lawyer on Mishra’s direction.
