Gajapati: A team of forest department officials have seized illegal teakwoods from a police van near Ramsagar Road in Paralakhemundi of Gajapati district on Wednesday and four have been arrested in this connection. They have been identified as Bharat Mahankud, Yasavanta Acharya, Chinmay Behera and the driver Yogeshwar Mohapatra.
Based on a reliable information, the forest officials intercepted the police vehicle and seized the illegal teakwood logs. The vehicle belongs to Odisha State Armed Police (OSAP) 3rd Battalion.
The cops also detained the driver along with three police personnel. All of them were carrying the seized teakwoods to Bhubaneswar from the Reserve Colony in Paralakhemundi. The seized teakwoods are worth lakhs of rupees.
The forest department officials have initiated an investigation into the matter.
