Gold worth Rs 33 lakh seized from woman in Bhubaneswar Airport

Bhubaneswar: The Air Intelligence Wing of Customs at Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) seized 959 grams of gold from a lady passenger yesterday. The market price of the seized gold is said to be worth Rs 33 lakh.

Acting on a specific intelligence, the Officers of Air Intelligence Unit of Customs under the aegis of Satyendra Kumar Singh, Pr. Commissioner of & Customs, Bhubaneswar and Bishnu Caran Sahu, Joint Commissioner of Customs, Bhubaneswar intercepted one lady passenger of Indian origin, hailing from Maharashtra, who arrived from Delhi by Air India flight no AI-077.

A search of the woman’s personal baggage’s led to the recovery of nine (9) pieces of gold bars of foreign origin concealed inside an emergency light totally weighing of 959.990 gms valued at Rs 33, 16,579 along with cigarettes totaling of 24400 sticks valued at Rs 1, 22,000. Both the items were detected under meticulous scanning of her checked-in baggages. Further investigation is underway.
