Five Arrested For Planning To Liberate Dreaded Criminal Rabi Rao From Jharapada Jail

Bhubaneswar: The Special Squad and Saheed Nagar police today foiled a planning to liberate dreaded criminal Rabi Rao from Jharapada jail by arresting five of his gang members.

The accused have been identified as Sk Amin (20), Raghu Biswal (19), Sibu Thakur (20), Motibulla (19) and Pabitra Mohan Das (19), all staying in Kharvel Nagar area.

Police have also seized one revolver, five live ammunition, five cell phones, one toy pistol, three daggers and one chilli powder packet from their possession.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Anup Kumar Sahoo said that the accused were planning to attack police and free Rao during his regular court production. “For this purpose they snatched one motorcycle from Chandaka area. They have also communicated with an arms dealer to procure firearms. They also admitted that they had earlier conducted a recce of the jail and court premises several times,” said Sahoo.  

Rao was arrested in August in an encounter with the police. Rao was the leader of the gang which was on the prowl in the city. The gang was involved in a series of robbery, loot and snatching incidents in the city few months ago.

“Two of the accused nabbed today were also involved in the series of crimes committed by the Rao gang. We are further verifying the antecedents of the accused,” added Sahoo.
