Keonjhar: A major fire breaks out in a cashew forest in Dimirimunda village of Bhimakanda panchayat under Telakoi block at Keonjhar district of Odisha.
According to reports, the locals of the village who were passing by the jungle informed about the fire to the farmers but by the time they arrived the forest was reduced to ashes.
The loss caused to the farmers shall be difficult to compensate for a long period of time.
Later when the Telakoi Forest Officials were informed about the incident, they said that as the locals put fire beneath the Mahula tree as they have been collecting the flowers. The fire eventually spread to the nearby cashew trees, mango trees and the reserve forests burning them into ashes.
Smoke detector and GPS tracking device will be installed in such areas to detect the fire before it spreads in the jungle, added the officials.
