Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Fire Services department on Wednesday conducted a fire safety inspection and awareness drive in coaching centres across the state.
As many as 49 teams inspected coaching centres in Jeypore, Bhawanipatna, Balangir, Jharsuguda, Angul and Bhadrak districts.
The inspection drive was held as a precautionary measure after a major fire mishap at a coaching centre in Surat claimed lives of over 20 students last month.
The fire services teams inspected whether the coaching centres have been issued a fire safety certificate and if they are following the necessary guidelines or not.
Through an awareness drive, the students were sensitised on various life-saving and rescue techniques in the time of an emergency situation.
