Expectant mother carried on cot in Malkangiri

Malkangiri:  In yet another case of poor infrastructure facilities in the rural areas in Odisha, a pregnant woman was carried by her family members on cot for nearly three kilometres before accessing an ambulance to reach a hospital in the district on Saturday.

According to reports, Parvati Khilo, a resident of Dutelguda under Korukonda block, experienced labour pain today morning. Her family members had called the 102 ambulance service to take her to the hospital, but it didn’t turn up due to the poor muddy road connecting to the village.

Her family members had no other choice except to carry Parvati on a cot for nearly three kilometres up to Koyaguda, from where they were able to access an ambulance to reach the Primary Health Centre (CHC) in Korukonda.

As the last reports came in, the woman was admitted in the hospital and her condition was stated to be stable.
