Elephant Poaching: 2 forest officials suspended in Nayagarh

Nayagarh: Initiating action against the guilty staffs in poaching of an eight-year-old elephant in Pancharida forest here three days ago, the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Nayagarh today suspended two officials.

The officials who were suspended from their duties are, Forester Kailash Pradhan and Forest Guard Biswajit Samantara. The duo faced action for dereliction of duty, said forest department sources.

Notably, on May 28, some locals from Pancharida area found the carcass of the jumbo with tusks missing.

While the exact cause of the death of the elephant is yet to be ascertained it is being suspected that the pachyderm might have fallen prey to tusk smugglers.
