Nayagarh: In a suspect case of elephant poaching in the State, an 8-year-old tusker was found dead in Pancharida forest in Nayagarh district today.
The incident came to fore after some locals spotted the jumbo carcass inside the forest this morning and called up forest officials.
After the forest officials arrived at the spot and conducted preliminary investigation the tusks of the jumbo were found missing.
While the cause of the death of the elephant is yet to be ascertained, the officials are suspecting the role of a poachers’ racket and launched an investigation in the same direction.
