Elderly woman trampled to death by elephant herd in Keonjhar

Anandpur: In yet another case of human animal conflict in the State a wild elephant herd trampled an elderly woman to death in Kaduabahali village under Ghasipura police limits in Keonjhar district last night.

The deceased has been identified as Chanduri Munda (72), a resident of the same locality.

As per the report, the victim who visited the inlaws’ house located in a nearby village was returning home in the night when the jumbo attack took place. She came across a herd of five elephants which had sneaked into a forest located near the village for last one week and got lifted by a pachyderm with its trunk to slammed on the ground and trampled.

Tension gripped the area after the news of the death of Chanduri spread and locals drove away the herd into the nearby forest. Later they staged a protest alleging apathy of the forest department.

Local Police rushed to the spot and pacified the mob late in the night.
