Driver killed, helper critical after trailer truck falls off bridge

Bargarh: In a tragic road mishap, at least one person was killed and an equal number sustained critical injury after an iron rod laden trailer truck fell off Anga River bridge near Mahulpali on Padampur-Sohela road in Bargarh district last night.

The deceased has been identified as Anil Kumar Nayak of Itamati village of Nayagarh district and the driver of the truck. The injured is Anil Patra of Golapokhari village of the same district.

The mishap took place while the truck bearing registration number-OD 05 AM 8547 was en-route to Nuapara from Angul to deliver an iron-rod consignment. Late in the night yesterday, Nayak lost control over the wheels of his vehicle due to some reason causing it to skid off the bridge and plunge into the dry river bed.

While Anil died on the spot by getting trapped inside the overturned truck, Patra somehow managed to jump off the vehicle to save his life but had his left hand broken in the attempt.

Some locals rescued and sent the injured to Padampur Hospital in the wee hours today.

Police have arrived at the spot to seize the mangled truck.
