Balangir: Mystery shrouded the death of a woman whose body was found hanging to a tree in Gulmi forest near Titlagarh in Balangir district last night under mysterious conditions.
The identity of the deceased is yet to be ascertained.
The incident came to light, after a group of villagers from Gulmi and Khalilakhama villages who visited the Satabahani forest to collect firewood came across the hanging body and intimated Muribahal Police.
The deceased was found in a naked state with face tied up with her stole. Sandal, earrings and necklace of the deceased were also found lying near the spot.
Muribahal Police team along with Titlagarh SDPO Saroj Mohapatra reached the spot later in the night and seized the body for autopsy.
While Muribahal Police has started investigation in the case, it suspects the woman had been murdered after rape by at least three to four miscreants as a number of liquor bottles and food items were also recovered from the spot.
