Dalai Lama receives 10th KISS Humanitarian Award

Dalai Lama receives 10th KISS Humanitarian Award Bhubaneswar: Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama has been honoured with 10th “KISS Humanitarian Award” at a special function organised by Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) here on Tuesday.

The Dalai Lama was the first Nobel Prize awardee to get the KISS Humanitarian Award. He was conferred with the award in the presence of many dignitaries and 27,000 tribal children of KISS.

The students of the largest tribal university of the globe sung the welcome song during the award presentation, which was followed by the welcome address by Dr. Achyuta Samanta. Then, the Dalai Lama was conferred with the prestigious award.

“I am very happy to be here. You are the generation of the 21st century. You have lot of opportunities and responsibilities. Leave laziness and strive for success.You will get success, if you work hard with self-confidence,” advised the 82-year-old Buddhist monk while addressing the students. He also appreciated the selfless deeds and contribution of Dr. Samanta for the education of the tribal children and betterment of the society.

Saswati Bal, President of KIIT and KISS gave the vote of thanks.

The KISS Humanitarian Award was instituted in 2008 by founder of KIIT and KISS Dr. Achyuta Samanta to honour and recognise individuals with exceptionally high contribution to the society in various fields related to social issues.

Hollywood actor and United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Global Goodwill Ambassador Ashley Judd was given the award on 10th February 2017 for the year 2016.

The other prominent individuals who have received the prestigious award are – Edna Bomo Molewa,  former premier of North-western state of South Africa and the Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, Dr. Kee Sun Ham, President & Founder of Hanseo University, South Korea (2009), Sir Anerood Jugnauth, His Excellency the President of Mauritius (2010), Rt. Hon Lord Nicholas Addison Phillips, President (Chief Justice) of the Supreme Court of U.K (2011), Lyonchhen Jigmi Y. Thinley, Hon’ble Prime Minister, The Royal Government of Bhutan (2012), Madam Albina Du Boisrouvray, Founder, Association François-Xavier Bagnoud (FXB International), Switzerland (2013), Anne Stenhammer, Former Regional Programme Director, UN Women, South Asia Regional Office  (2014) and Albina Du Boisrouvray, Founder, Association François-Xavier Bagnoud (FXB International), Switzerland (2015).
