Cyclone Titli: Odisha govt orders closure of all schools, colleges in 4 districts

Bhubaneswar: Odisha government on Tuesday ordered closure of all schools anganwadi centres and colleges in four districts of the state as a precautionary measure due to the Cyclone Titli.

Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi, after chairing a high-level meeting at the state secretariat here this evening, to draw strategies to face Cyclone Titli, informed that schools, anganwadi centres and colleges in four districts namely Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri and Jagatsinghpur will remain closed from tomorrow to till October 12 as a precautionary measure.

Based on the impact of the cyclone we will decide to declare holidays of the institutes in other districts, he added.

The Chief Secretary further said that the concerned officials have been directed to keep drinking water and power generators keep ready in case of power failure due to the cyclone. Besides, we also have decided to evacuate people living in the low-lying areas if there would be heavy rainfall.

As many as six National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams and 11 Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) teams have been positioned at different places for the rescue operations.

DGP, Development Commissioner, SRC and Secretaries of different departments attended the meeting.
