Phulbani: Locals recovered the body of a newborn girl in Mundia sahi under Phulbani Town Police Station area in Kandhamal district on Friday.
The incident came to light in the morning after some commuters spotted a stray dog dragging the child beside a village road. Fearing that the baby might be mauled, they rescued her. Later they called up Phulbani Town Police.
“We saw a dog with the baby in mouth at around 8 AM in the morning and called up police for her rescue. The baby might have been dumped by somebody near the hospital which is located in the Upara Sahi area,” said Susmita Digal, a villager.
“We reached the village after getting intimation on the abandoned baby. However, the baby was found dead and has been rushed for post-mortem. Investigation is on to trace the dead baby’s parents,” said Rebati Sabara, IIC, Phulbani Town Police.
