BMC gears up E-Waste and Domestic Hazardous Waste collection

Bhubaneswar: In order to make the Temple City more liveable and the surroundings eco-friendly, the “Weekly E-Waste Collection’’ of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) got a major boost with a collection of 700 kilogramme (7 quintals) of E- Waste and Domestic Hazardous Waste today, from 67 wards, under the civic jurisdiction.

All the BMC Sanitation Team members were alerted for the weekly E-waste collection. The initiative, which was earlier restricted to some selected wards has now become functional in all wards across the city.

After today’s exercise all the “Safai’’ vehicles and tricycles engaged for waste lifting have collected nearly 7 quintals of the hazardous wastes from the doorsteps of citizens. While the E-Wastes including damaged  TV, remote, transistors, mobile phone charger, adapter, land line telephone, electrical and electronics discarded accessories were collected amounting to 5.76 quintals, today, the Domestic Hazardous Waste like CFL bulbs, tube lights, discarded paint drums, phenyl bottles constituted 1.22 quintals of  waste.

Different agencies engaged for sanitation activities were also instructed to collect from their respective wards. Team BMC comprising “Swachha Sathi’’, “Swachha Supervisors’’, Sanitary Inspectors, Sanitation Experts and “Swachha Bhubaneswar Abhijan’’ (SBA) Cell Experts were engaged on-field to coordinate and mobilise communities across the city.
