Another school student found pregnant in Odisha

Phulbani: A minor tribal student of a state-run model residential school in Odisha’s Kandhamal district has been found pregnant, the police said on Friday.

The minor girl, who studies in Class VIII at a school managed by the Kutia Kandh Development Agency (KKDA) in Baliguda area under Belghar police limits, was detected during a routine health check-up a few days back.

The tribal girl was admitted to the District Headquarter Hospital here, where tests confirmed her four months of pregnancy. Eventually, the Head Master of the school lodged a complaint with Belghar police station in this connection.

In her statement to police, the minor girl revealed that a 20-year-old youth, who studies Plus III at Tumudi Bandh College, had sexually assaulted her.

Meanwhile, the Belghar police arrested the accused and forwarded him to the court.

In recent past, incidents of sexual abuse of minor girls in government residential schools have been reported from different districts of the State.
