Another Elephant Dies Of Herpes Virus Infection In Nandankanan Zoo

Bhubaneswar: A six-year-old female elephant Kamala died at Nandankanan zoo today. This is the second elephant death at the zoo in the last five days.

Zoo officials said that the elephant was undergoing treatment for elephant herpes virus at the zoo. The zoo has currently five female elephants including 2 sub-adults after the death of Kamala.

Earlier on Sunday a ten-year-old male elephant, Chandan had died at the zoo due to herpes virus infection. 

The zoo has also written to the Central Zoo Authority (CZA), requesting it to issue a protocol on the disease.
