Baripada: Badasahi police in Mayurbhanj district arrested seven people for beating up five women mercilessly suspecting them to be sorcerers.
Police swung into action and arrested the accused after the video of the incident, which took place on October 22, went viral on social media yesterday and was reported in media.
In the video, it was seen that a furious mob tied the women to a tree and beat them up in Madhupur village of the district over suspicion of practising witchcraft. Following the incident, all the six were admitted to a local hospital and three of them were later shifted to Baripada district headquarters hospital as their condition deteriorated.
Badasahi IIC P Ekka said, a case has been registered against the accused on the basis of the victim’s complaint. Efforts are on to arrest the other accused involved in the incident.
