Dhenkanal: Tightening the noose around the necks of bootleggers in the district, Excise officials last night seized illicit liquor weighing 270 litres during separate raids in Kamakhyanagar Sub Division and arrested a bootlegger.
After getting a tip-off on the illicit country liquor consignment, a team of Excise officials from Kamakhyanagar conducted a raid at Damala Chhak under Parjang police limits late in the night following a direction from Dhenkanal Excise Superitendent Manoj Kumar Sethi.
During the raid the officials seized a Mahindra Bolero laden with 200 litres country liquor. However, the driver of the vehicle managed to escape from the spot taking advantage of dark.
Later, another crackdown was held at Bhalumunda Chhak under Kamakhyanagar police limits, in which a bike carrying around 70 litres of illicit liquor was seized. A bootlegger identified as Suresh Kumar Sahoo was also taken into custody.
Informing on the raid Kamakhyanagar Excise Sub Inspector Swapnarani Sahoo said more similar raids will be conducted in the coming days in view of the upcoming general election.
