Star Indian cricketer Virat Kohli shone in the ICC World Cup 2023 and finished as the player of the tournament and the leading run-scorer. The 36-year-old batsman wrapped up the competition with an impressive 765 runs, making him the top scorer in the tournament.

In the final against Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Kohli scored 54 runs off 63 balls. Despite not securing victory in the final, Kohli’s overall performance was outstanding. Throughout the tournament, he hit three centuries and six half centuries, maintaining an impressive average of 101.57 and a strike rate of 90.69.

Kohli made history by equalling and then surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the most ODI hundreds (50). He achieved this milestone during a crucial semi-final match against New Zealand at Mumbai’s Wankhede stadium.

The star batter kicked off the tournament on October 8 with 85 runs in the opening match against Australia in Chennai. During the group stages, he scored centuries against Bangladesh (103) and South Africa (101*). Further he delivered key performances against New Zealand (95) and Sri Lanka (85).

Virat Kohli concluded the tournament with the most fifty-plus scored in a single World Cup edition, boasting six half centuries. Surpassing Tendulkar’s seven fifties in 2003 and Shakib al Hasan’s record in 2019, Virat Kohli was rightfully named as the player of the tournament.
