“This has been the best ODI knock I’ve seen in my life”, Says Sachin Tendulkar to Glenn Maxwell’s remarkable 201 not out

Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell’s unbeaten 201-run knock against Afghanistan in the 2023 World Cup has earned praises from cricket legends Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag.

The high-stakes match took place at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, with Australia chasing a target of 292 runs set by Afghanistan. Facing a dire situation, Australia had lost seven wickets for just 91 runs. It was at this crucial moment that Glenn Maxwell stepped up, even facing a hat-trick ball. Despite battling cramps and injuries, Maxwell showcased unparalleled resilience and skill.

Maxwell’s extraordinary performance saw him achieving a double century, amassing 201 runs from 128 balls, including an astonishing 21 boundaries and 10 sixes. Remarkably, he was so fatigued that he couldn’t run between the wickets due to cramps, opting to hit boundaries without moving his feet. This stunning feat marked the highest partnership for the 8th wicket in the history of One Day Internationals (ODIs), as Maxwell collaborated with Pat Cummins for a 202-run partnership.

Maxwell’s sensational innings not only secured Australia’s three-wicket victory over Afghanistan but also propelled them into the semi-finals of the World Cup. It marked the first instance of a player scoring a double hundred in an ODI run chase, making it the fastest double century in World Cup history.

Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar tweeted, “A wonderful knock by @IZadran18 to put Afghanistan in a good position.
