IND vs AUS T20I: Suryakumar Yadav ditches captaincy concerns, focuses on batting prowess

Suryakumar Yadav marked his senior India captaincy debut with an impressive 80 off 42 balls leading India to a victory over Australia.

In a captivating display of leadership and stellar batting performance, Suryakumar Yadav marked his senior India captaincy debut with an impressive 80 off 42 balls, leading India to a thrilling two-wicket victory over Australia in the first T20 International in Vishakhapatnam on Thursday.

Addressing the post-match presentation ceremony, Suryakumar Yadav shared his thoughts on the significant moment, saying, “I think it’s a proud moment, whenever you play cricket, you think of representing India, it will take some time to sink in but very proud.”

However, what sets Yadav apart is his ability to compartmentalize the responsibilities of captaincy when he steps onto the field with the bat. “I left the (captaincy) luggage in the dressing room. I just tried to enjoy my batting, whether I am batting 10 or 40 balls,” he stated, emphasizing the importance of focusing on the game at hand.

Facing a formidable Australian side, Suryakumar Yadav’s innings played a pivotal role in India’s successful pursuit of a challenging 209-run target. His dynamic captaincy was further highlighted as he tactfully managed the team and the game.

Rinku Singh, a relative newcomer with just six T20Is under his belt, played a crucial role in the final moments of the game, scoring an unbeaten 22 off 14 balls. Yadav praised Singh’s composure, stating, “The way the boys kept their nerve was great to see. It was a tailor-made situation for Rinku. His composure relaxed me also.”

Acknowledging the remarkable performance of Mukesh Kumar, who delivered a final over that cost just five runs, Yadav expressed, “It was huge. The way all three fast bowlers pulled us back into the game after 16 overs. Incredible achievement.”

Reflecting on the match conditions, Suryakumar Yadav noted, “Thought there will be a little bit of dew but there wasn’t. It isn’t a big ground and I knew batting will get easy. Thought they might get 230-235 but the bowlers did really well,” indicating his satisfaction with the team’s overall performance.

Teaming up with Ishan Kishan at a challenging score of 22 for two, Yadav emphasized their positive approach, saying, “We just wanted to be positive. Just enjoy and express ourselves. I told Kishan one thing, just keep batting, don’t think of the target.”
