London: South Africa started their Champions Trophy campaign in style with a comprehensive 96-run win over Sri Lanka.
Earlier, South Africa posted 299/6 in 50 overs. Hashim Amla was the top scorer with 103. Faf du Plessis (75) and JP Duminy (38) were other top contributors. Nuwan Pradeep took two wickets.
Chasing a victory target of 300, Sri Lanka started on a very positive note with openers Dickwella (41) and Tharanga (57) adding 69 runs for the first wicket. But, they lost the plot soon and bowled out for 203 in 41.3 overs.
Kusal Perera was the other top contributor with 44*. Imran Tahir took four wickets, while Chris Morris took two wickets. Tahir was declared ‘Player of the Match’.
