Asian Games 2018: India add 6 more medals

Palembang: Indian athletes added five more medals – 2 Gold, 1 Silver and 3 Bronze – till this noon at the ongoing Asian Games in Indonesia.

Rohan Bopanna and Divij Sharan won the gold medal in Men’s Doubles. They defeated Kazakhstan’s Aleksandar Bublik and Denis Yevseyv 6-3, 6-4 to win the medal.

The Indian men’s quadruple sculls team won the second gold of the day for the country. The team comprising Sawarn Singh, Dattu Bhokanal, Om Prakash and Sukhmeet Singh pocketed the yellow medal by clocking 6:17.13. Hosts Indonesia (6:20.58) and Thailand (6:22.41) were got the silver and bronze medals respectively in the quadruple sculls.

Likewise, In Lightweight Double Sculls Rowing, Rohit Kumar and Bhagwan Singh clocked 7:04.61 to win the bronze at the JSC Lake. While Japan’s Miyaura Masayuki and Takeda Masahiro won the gold with a timing of 7:01.70, Koreans Kim Byunghoon and Lee Minhyuk (7:03.22) bagged silver.

Another rower – Dushyant – won bronze medal in Men’s Lightweight Single Sculls with a timing of 7.18.76. Hyunsu Park of Korea won the gold while Chun Gun Chiu of Hong Kong won the silver medal in the event.

Heena Sidhu won the fifth medal of the day till now. She won the bronze medal in the Women’s 10m air pistol finals. She shot 219.3 in 10m air pistol final.

On the other hand, it was heartbreak for Commonwealth Games gold-medallist 16-year-old Manu Bhaker as she eliminated at fifth place with a score of 176.2 in the event.

With 240.3 score China’s Wang Qian grabbed the gold while South Korea’s Kim Minjung got the silver medal with a score of 237.6.

India Women’s Kabaddi team lost to Iran 27-24 in the finals hence settling for the silver medal.

Meanwhile, India defeated Pakistan 28-27 in Men’s handball group match.

With today’s six medals (till noon), India has got 24 medals in the competition.
