AI generated image of ‘Sharam’ cheese by Amul goes viral, company issues public clarification

Amul company was quick to issue a public clarification, soon after the AI generated image of Amul's 'Sharam' cheese went viral.

In recent news, an AI generated image of ‘Sharam’ cheese by Amul took the social media by storm. The viral photo shows a hand holding a cheese packet with the label ‘Sharam’ cheese. The packet also features ‘Amul’ logo on it. Notably, the word ‘Sharam’ means ‘Shame’ in Hindi.

Amul company was quick to issue a public clarification, soon after the AI generated image of Amul’s ‘Sharam’ cheese went viral. Addressing the situation, Amul clarified that the image was AI generated, and definitely fake. The company specifically pointed out that the image was created without their consent or knowledge.

They also clarified that the post was used to spread misinformation and to spread irrelevant fear and concern among the general public. Amul company further wrote, “We request you to kindly share this message with your friends and family and assure them about the goodness of Amul Cheese.” Take a look at the post here:

Nonetheless, the situation proved to be quite hilarious. With Amul posting the clarification on their official social media handle, the internet got a space to express their thoughts on the same.

Comments on the viral photo and Amul’s post ranged from hilarious statements to serious ones. While some people made a fun of the situation, some stated how this could prove to be a good PR strategy. One person even wrote sarcastically, “Thank you for clarifying Amul. We would not have been able to figure it otherwise.”

Other comments on the video included, “Sharam naam ki koi cheese nahi hai,” “Golden opportunity to hack into this conversation,” “New age marketer will acknowledge that its a fun post while clarifying that its fake.”
