Youth’s palm chopped-off, another critically injured in Odisha

Balangir: In a shocking incident, a youth’s palm was chopped-off by three other youths including a girl in Rajivnagarpada under the Balangir Town police limits today.

Two youths namely Alok Ranjan Das and Amit Patnaik had gone to attend nature’s call. Two other youths whom Das identified as Kuna Padhi and Ghasiram Majhi went to the spot along with a girl and had a word of exchange with them for some unknown reason. Suddenly, they attacked Alok with a sharp weapon chopping-off his left palm. Before running away from the spot they also attacked Patnaik.

Being alerted by Alok’s cry for help, some locals rushed to the spot and called Balangir Town police. Both Alok and Amit were wheeled into the Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital immediately. Later, doctors referred Alok to the Burla-based Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) as his condition deteriorated.

Meanwhile, the Town police have started an investigation into the matter. They have launched a manhunt to trace the absconding accused persons.

Sources said that police are also questioning some locals and kin of the injured persons to know whether the crime is the fallout of a past enmity or political rivalry.
