Will resign from Rajya Sabha membership soon: Bishnu Das

Bhubaneswar, Mar 19: A day after his appointment as the Vice Chairman of the Odisha Planning Board, senior BJD leader and Rajya Sabha member Bishnu Charan Das on Sunday said he would resign from the membership of the Upper House of the Parliament of India very soon.

Speaking exclusively to Kalinga TV, Bishnu said, “A person can’t hold two constitutional posts at a time. Hence, I will go to New Delhi very soon and consult with Rajya Sabha Vice Chairman regarding my resignation.”

The state government on Saturday appointed Das as the Vice Chairman of the Odisha Planning Board. The post was lying vacant since the exit of N Bhaskar Rao last year following his election to the Rajya Sabha.

Bishnu, who was the member of the Rajya Sabha since July 2016, was also appointed as the BJD Dalit cell convener.
