According to reliable reports, the temple will remain closed from 4 pm to 8 pm on December 20. During this time visitors will not be allowed the darshan of Lord Jagannath or his siblings.

In this ritual the face of Lord Jagannath and his siblings will be decorated in traditional and sacred colors like saffron, red, green, black, and white. The service will be done by the Dutta Mohapatra Sevakas.

The Banaka lagi ritual will begin after the completion of all the other rituals and the second bhoga mandap of Mahaprabhu, said reliable reports in this regard. The Banakalagi niti of Lord Jagannath is a sacred ritual. The Bijayadwar of the Puri Srimandir will remain shut during the ritual.

The Banakalagi Niti is a ritual done in closed rooms, hence visitors are prohibited from entering into the temple during these specific hours. After the ritual, Lord Jagannath will take a ceremonial bath, ‘Maha Snana’. The doors of the temple will be reopened for the visitors thereafter.
