Odisha: 7-year-old girl battles with extremely rare disease treeman syndrome

Malkangiri: While girls of her age dream of endless possibilities that life has to offer, seven-year-old Rajeswari is battling with an extremely rare disease called treeman Syndrome.

A native of the Dantewada district in the Odisha- Chhattisgarh boarder, Rajeswari has been suffering from this rare disease for the last few years.

As per reports, initially a thick layer of skin developed on her feet which later spread to other parts of the body. At present, the patient is under treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Science in Raipur, Chhattisgarh.

Epidermodysplasia verruciformis (EV), also known as treeman syndrome, is an extremely rare hereditary skin disorder associated with a high risk of skin cancer. It is characterized by abnormal susceptibility to human papillomaviruses (HPVs) of the skin. The resulting uncontrolled HPV infections result in the growth of scaly macules and papules resembling tree bark, particularly on the hands and feet.
