MeT issues orange alert for 5 districts of Odisha as mercury soars

The regional center of the IMD has issued an orange alert for five districts of Odisha as the mercury rises in the state.

Bhubaneswar: The regional center of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for five districts of Odisha as the mercury rises in the state.

The districts including Sonepur, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, and Sundargarh will experience a rise in temperature. On the other hand, districts including Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Boudh, Nayagarh, Khordha, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Angul, Deogarh, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj have received yellow warnings for the heatwave.

The Capital city of Bhubaneswar recorded 29.8 degrees Celsius at 5.30 am on Saturday. The humidity at that time was 72 percent.

Taking serious note of the heat wave warnings of the IMD, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has issued the following advisories:

  • Steps be taken to circulate the warning message among the public.
  • Heat is tolerable for the general public but slight health concern for vulnerable people (viz: infants, older citizens, and sick people).
  • The public may be advised to take precautionary measures for hot weather while going outside during noontime (around 11 AM-3 PM in these areas).
  • The situation may be closely monitored and action as deemed necessary be taken.
