IT raid on Dhiraj Sahu: 17 kgs gold seized, probe still underway

After cash worth Rs. 353 crores, there have been reports of as much as 17 kgs of gold being seized in the IT raid on Dhiraj Sahu. 

Bhubaneswar: After cash worth Rs. 353 crores, there have been reports of as much as 17 kgs of gold being seized in the IT raid on Dhiraj Sahu. The IT raid on Dhiraj Sahu in Odisha continued for as many as five days. The cash seized finally amounted to Rs. 353 crores.

Yesterday, the Income Tax department arrested the wife of Distillery owner Sanjay Sahu and searched the lockers of Axis Bank at Titilagarh Utkal Gramya Bank and Titilagarh. Gold was recovered from one of the three lockers of Axis Bank. There is information that 17 kilos of gold had been found.

There is information about checking some more lockers today. Important information can be obtained from the laptop, hard disk and diary seized from Balangir. The Income Tax Department is also checking them. On the other hand, after the counting of money has been completed, the process of depositing in the government account has started.

It is worth mentioning here that the raid is said to be one of the biggest raids ever by the Income Tax Department. The cash is said to be linked to Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Dhiraj Sahu. The amount was fixed at a whooping Rs 353 crore figure.

Sources say, counting machines and manpower had been engaged at the State Bank of India (SBI) Main Branch in Balangir. A team of officials continued with the counting of the cash in a total 176 bags seized during raids on premises of linked to Congress Rajya Sabha MP Dhiraj Sahu.

The Income Tax Department had deployed about 40 large and small machines and had brought in more department staff and bank staffers.

Yesterday, the Income Tax teams had seized three more bags of cash from Dheeraj Sahu’s premises in Ranchi, the capital city of Jharkhand. While it is worth mentioning here that nearly 19 bags of money were seized from the house of  his manager in charge of the maintenance of liquor factories in various areas of Odisha. The amount recovered from manager’s house was expected to cross Rs 20 crore.
