The people in low-lying areas have been cautioned through public address system.

The Hirakud dam authorities will release the first phase of flood water said reliable reports on Friday. People were cautioned against loitering on the banks of the Mahanadi river.

It is worth mentioning that since there is regular rain in the upper catchment area the water level in the reservoir is on the rise with each passing day.

The water level of the Hirakud Dam is continuously rising after continuous rain has been experienced in the upper catchment area, said reports.

The water level of Hirakud Dam is increasing due to rain. Water level of Hirakud reservoir stands at 614.08 ft. The current inflow of water into the dam is 92,774 cusecs while outflow is 40,615 cusecs

However initially only five gates will be opened, said the chief engineer of Hirakud said. Further detailed reports awaited in this matter.
