In a gruesome incident, a man allegedly killed his wife and daughter by using a poisonous snake in Odisha’s Ganjam district on October 7.

Berhampur: In a gruesome incident, a man allegedly killed his wife and daughter by using a poisonous snake in Odisha’s Ganjam district on October 7. Earlier, it was said that the mother-daughter died due to snakebite. However, the startling revelation came following the arrest of the woman’s husband yesterday.

One Ganesh Patra, a resident of Adheibara village under Kabisuryanagar police station limits of the district allegedly locked his wife Basanti Patra and minor daughter in a room over some unknown reason. Later, he released a cobra (Kolathia Naga), which he had bought from a snake charmer, to the room on October 7.

After the mother-daughter was bitten by the snake, they were rushed to Hinjlicut government hospital where doctors declared them brought dead.

Later, police registered a case of snakebite. However, cops initiated an investigation on murder angle after Basanti’s father field a complaint against Ganesh accusing him of killing his daughter and granddaughter.

In course of investigation, cops interrogated Ganesh over the allegation, during which he reportedly confessed to have committed the crime, following which he was arrested and forwarded to the court.

On the other hand, while speaking to the media persons he denied the allegation claiming he has been implicated in a false case of murder by using a snake.
