Crime Branch to take cameraman Manas Swain murder case’s prime accused Sarmistha Rout and 3 others on 5-day remand

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Crime Branch will take cameraman Manas Swain murder case’s prime accused Sarmistha Rout and three others on a five-day remand.

According to reports, Chandbali Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) court permitted the Crime Branch to take Sarmistha Rout, her associate Jhuna Bhoi, former I&PR Director Niranjan Sethi and Ranjan Nayak, proprietor of Raj Communication of Khandagiri, on a five-day remand.

The accused persons’ remand period will begin from March 29 and end on April 5. During this period of time, the Crime Branch team is likely to interrogate Sarmistha Rout and Niranjan Sethi face to face.

Sarmistha Rout and Jhuna Bhoi were arrested by the joint teams of Bhadrak Police and Crime Branch from Nalanga area of Bhadrak district earlier today. Both of them were produced before the Court of JMFC Chandbali after their arrests.

Notably, Manas Swain was working as the cameraman of the web-channel owned by Sarmistha. His family members filed a missing report with Chandbali police on February 14, following which a case under sections 373 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered and an investigation was initiated.
