Bhubaneswar: It is now time that women will provide safety to women. And in this regard the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack twin city Commissionerate Police today launched women Special Police Officer (SPO) unit. At least 300 women from 56 organisations were inducted to the team of voluntary SPOs.
Launching the SPO system, Commissioner of Police Sudhansu Sarangi addressed the gathering and said that the SPOs will have power at par with the lady cops in Odisha. Besides they will also have power to arrest accused persons if required.
Initially, the voluntary SPOs will be engaged for three months tenure. However, the tenure of their work may be enhanced later as per situation demands.
Each of the SPOs has been provided with an identity card and a T-Shirt to execute work without any problem in the field. Many women from IT, Call Centres and Colleges have been enrolled in this team.
