BJP asks BJD to explain precarious power situation during PadyatraBhubaneswar: The Odisha unit of the BJP on Wednesday asked the ruling BJD to explain the precarious power situation in the state during its nine-day Padyatra.

In a press meet at the party’s state headquarters, secretary of state BJP Kalindi Samal asked the BJD to explain to the people of the state why power had not reached around 39 lakh out of the one crore houses in the state.

He asked the BJD whether it can assure the people of Odisha to fulfill the dream of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in providing electricity to each house in the country by 2018.

Samal also alleged that despite repeated requests by the locals, the local administration takes a long time to replace transformers that explode. The electricians take a long time even to fix a fuse, he added.

Reminding the BJD that the state government had given a written assurance on the electrification of every village in the state by May, 2017, the saffron party leader said it had failed miserably to fulfill the demand.

Samal further said that, BJD should explain to the people during the Padyatra why it had failed to fulfill its promise of setting up 500 sub-stations to tackle the low voltage problem across the state.

Moreover, the BJP alleged that the state government had signed agreements to set up 27 independent power projects in the state. However, it has set up only four such projects while work on 20 projects is yet to commence.

Party’s chief spokesperson Sajjan Sharma and spokespersons Dilip Mohanty and Sudipta Ray were present during the press conference.

Ever since the ruling BJD launched its Jan Sampark Padyatra (people-connect campaign) on October 2, Odisha BJP has left no stone unturned in attacking BJD by raising different issues and asking it to give explanation to the people.
