6 Govt. functionaries convicted in a day in 4 vigilance cases in Odisha

As many as six government functionaries were convicted in a day in four vigilance cases in Odisha today, informed the Vigilance department.

Bhubaneswar: As many as six government functionaries were convicted in a day in four vigilance cases in Odisha today, informed the Vigilance department.

The public servants were convicted in 4 vigilance cases that included 3 traps and 1 corruption.

EX-CDPO (RETIRED), KANTAMAL BLOCK, DIST-BOUDH CONVICTED IN VIGILANCE TRAP CASE:

  • Jashobanty Behera, Ex-CDPO (Retired), Kantamal Block, Dist-Boudh, who was charge sheeted by Odisha Vigilance in Berhampur Vigilance PS Case No.06 dt.11.01.2017 U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d)/7 P.C. Act,1988 for demanding and accepting bribe Rs.20,000/- from a complainant to pass the Chhatua bill, was convicted by Special Judge, Vigilance, Phulbani and sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 4 years and fine of Rs.10,000/- and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 6 months more for the offence U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) of P.C. Act, 1988.
  • Further, the convict Jashobanty Behera, Ex-CDPO (Retired) was sent to jail custody to serve her sentence. Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for stoppage of pension of Jashobanty Behera, Ex-CDPO (Retired) following her conviction.
  • K. Pradhan, Ex-Inspector, Vigilance Berhampur Division, A/pDSP, Vigilance Berhampur Division had investigated the case and V.V. Ramdas, Spl. PP, Vigilance, Phulbani conducted the case on behalf of the prosecution.

EX-ASI (RETIRED) OF POLICE, NEMALO POLICE STATION, DISTCUTTACK CONVICTED IN VIGILANCE TRAP CASE:

  • Prana Krushna Naik, Ex-Asst. Sub Inspector (ASI) of Police (Retired), Nemalo Police Station, Dist-Cuttack, who was charge sheeted by Odisha Vigilance in Cuttack Vigilance PS Case No.19 dtd.02.04.2015 U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d)/7 P.C. Act, 1988 for demanding and accepting bribe from a complainant to make compromise in a dispute matter, was convicted by Special Judge, Vigilance, Cuttack and sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 2 years and fine of Rs.5,000/- and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 6 months more for the offence U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d)/7 P.C. Act,1988.
  • Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for stoppage of pension of Prana Krushna Naik, Ex-ASI of Police (Retired) following his conviction. K.K. Panda, Ex-Inspector, Vigilance, Cuttack Division had investigated the case and Rakesh Sahu, Spl. PP, Vigilance, Cuttack conducted the case on behalf of the prosecution.

EX-HEADMASTER (RETIRED), EX-ASST. TEACHER (RETIRED) AND EX-PEON (RETIRED), ALL OF RAM DEO HIGH SCHOOL, KISHOREGANJ, BOINDA, DIST-ANGUL CONVICTED IN VIGILANCE TRAP CASE:

  • Goura Chandra Sahoo, Ex-Headmaster (Retired), Pradeep Kumar Pradhan, Ex-Asst. Teacher (Retired) and Dhruba Charana Pradhan, Ex-Peon (Retired), all of Ram Deo High School, Kishoreganj, Boinda, Dist-Angul, who were charge sheeted by Odisha Vigilance in Spl. Judge Vigilance Angul TR No.42/2013 U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d)/7 P.C. Act,1988/34 IPC for demanding and accepting bribe from a complainant to show undue favour to him during Supplementary HSC examination and to allow malpractice. The Court sentenced the convicts namely Goura Chandra Sahoo, Ex-Headmaster, Pradeep Kumar Pradhan, Ex-Asst. Teacher and Dhruba Charana Pradhan, Ex-Peon and sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 3 years each and fine of Rs.5,000/- each and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 2 months each more for the offence U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d)/7 P.C. Act,1988.
  • Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for stoppage of pension of Goura Chandra Sahoo, Ex-Headmaster (Retired), Pradeep Kumar Pradhan, Ex-Asst. Teacher(Retired) and Dhruba Charana Pradhan, Ex-Peon (Retired) following their conviction.
  • Prakash Chandra Pal, Ex-Inspector, Vigilance, Cuttack Division had investigated the case and Dillip Kumar Mohanty, Spl. PP, Vigilance, Angul conducted the case on behalf of the prosecution.
  1. iv) EX-JUNIOR ENGINEER (RETIRED) DRAINAGE DIVISION, BALASORE CONVICTED IN VIGILANCE CORRUPTION CASE:
  • Maherajuddin Khan, Ex-Junior Engineer (Retired), Drainage Division, Balasroe, who was charge sheeted by Odisha Vigilance in a Case vide Spl. Judge Vigilance, Balasore TR No.181/2007 U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(c)(d) P.C. Act, 1988/409/477-A IPC for execution of renovation work of Nallahs in the district of Balasore without approval of plan estimate, publication of notices for inviting tender and misappropriation of rice (Food for Work Programme) amounting to Rs.8,51,899/-, was convicted by Special Judge, Vigilance, Balasore and sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 3 years and fine of Rs.20,000/- and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 2 months more for the offence U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(c)(d) P.C. Act, 1988/409 IPC.
  • The Court further sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 1 year and fine of Rs.10,000/- and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 1 month more for the offence U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(c) P.C. Act, 1988. The Court further sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 1 year and fine of Rs.10,000/- and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 1 month more for the offence U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) P.C. Act, 1988. All the sentences are to run concurrently.
  • Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for stoppage of pension of Maherajuddin Khan, Ex-JE (Retired) following his conviction.
  • Jadunath Hansda, Ex-Inspector, Vigilance, Balasore Division had investigated the case and Radhakanta Mohapatra, Spl. PP, Vigilance, Balasore conducted the case on behalf of the prosecution.
