4 more sheep killed in Niali, killers yet to be identified

Four more sheep killed in Niali, killers yet to be identified Cuttack: There is no letup in the death of sheep being killed by the unidentified killers in Niali area of Cuttack district with four more fresh deaths reported on Tuesday night.

The mysterious animals killed four sheep and injured five others severely at Nati village of Niali block barely hours after the arrival of a 20-member special team from Similipal National Park (SNP).

Reports suggest that two sheep also went missing from the village last night.

The local residents have expressed serious anguish and are still in a state of fear as all efforts of the forest department failed to yield any desired result. They also demanded compensation for death of their livestock.

Number of measures like camera traps, CCTVs, drone cameras, night patrolling, bursting of crackers and laying of traps, were being taken by the forest officials who believe the killer animals to be either hyenas or wolves coming from nearby forest.

However, the special team from Similipal headed by Baripada DFO Sanjay Swain claimed that the team is well equipped with all facilities and is likely to trace the “killers” by today.
