25 houses gutted, property worth lakhs burnt in Dhenkanal village fire

Kamakhyanagar: Adding to the unending episode of fire mishaps under Kamakhyanagar police limits in Dhenkanal district, at least 25 houses were gutted and property worth lakhs were destroyed in a deadly fire which broke out in Kandarsingha village near here last night.

Sparks first erupted in one Pandab Diani’s home in the village in the wee hours and then spread to other houses in the locality. Diani along with his family members failed to douse the fire in their initial attempt and called up the local fire brigade team for help.

A number of fire tenders from Kamakhyanagar fire office reached the spot and brought the flames under control. However, till then at least 25 households had been lost to the fire.

While the exact reason behind the fire is yet to be ascertained, the locals have started considering it to be a curse of the presiding deity of the village as in the past few days a number of such incidents have occurred in and around the area.

Kamakhyanagar Police have started an investigation into the incident.
