1 crore fraud case: Web portal journalist sent to 3-days remand

Journalist Surjit Kumar Dhal, who was arrested based on fraud allegations, has been sent to three days remand of Odisha Crime Branch EOW.

Bhubaneswar: Journalist Surjit Kumar Dhal, who was arrested based on fraud allegations, has been sent to three days remand of Odisha Crime Branch EOW. The remand period will begin from tomorrow that is Monday. The EOW had sought 5 days remand of the journalist, but the court granted only three days. He will be interrogated during the three-day remand period from Monday to Wednesday.

Builder Kalinga Keshari Rath has brought fraud allegations against Surjit Kumar Dhal, who is the owner of a local web news portal and a newspaper. As per allegations, the journalist has cheated Rs.1 Crore from the businessman by using forged documents and also extorting/cheating money by impersonating as an influential person having big contacts.

Apart from this, he had also duped Keshari Rath of two luxury Mercedez and Audi cars. Even though he has taken the money and car, he did not carry out any of the promised tasks. So , he asked him to return the money and the car. Though the journalist returned the cars, he refused to give the money back. Moreover, he also threatened to jeopardize Rath’s business by using his influence if he kept asking him to return the money, stated the allegation report. So, he sought the help of EOW at last.

Based on the allegations, the EOW arrested Surjit Kumar Dhal on Saturday.
