WATCH: Man drives car through river to beat traffic in Himachal Pradesh

In order to avoid the heavy traffic in Himachal Pradesh, a tourist chose to drive through the Chandra River in Lahaul valley.

Himachal Pradesh: Roads in Himachal Pradesh are witnessing severe traffic due to the increased number of tourists during the Holiday season. In order to avoid the situation, a man chose to drive his car through the Chandra River in Lahaul valley of Himachal Pradesh.

A video of the incident has gone viral on social media. The video shows a Mahindra Thar SUV being driven through the Chandra River in Lahaul valley. Reliable reports confirm that the water level in the river was not too deep, allowing the vehicle to pass through, safely. The situation could have turned fatal, otherwise.

However, the video did not seem to sit well with the locals and netizens. It drew a lot of criticism online.

Noting the incident, the local police issued a challan to the driver of the Mahindra Thar SUV. In on official statement, SP Mayank Chaudhary said that the car has been booked under the Motor Vehicles Act 1988.

Notably, the police are carrying out drone surveillance to keep an eye on the traffic congestion in the areas of Lahaul and Spiti district. Videos obtained from the drone shows thousands of vehicles covering the roads, with no parking space left. In a statement, Shimla DGP Sanjay Kundu requested the tourists to prioritize their safety above everything else and to adhere to the traffic rules.
