2 killed, 5 injured after building collapses in Thane’s Bhiwandi

A two-storey building collapsed Sunday in Bhiwandi in Thane district of Maharashtra in the wee hours of Sunday.

Maharashtra: An infant and a woman lost their lives, while five others sustained injuries after a two-storey building collapsed in the early hours of Sunday in Thane district, Maharashtra, according to civic officials.

After they received a call regarding the collapse, fire department personnel rushed to the site for rescue operation.

The deceased were identified as Uzma Atif Momin (40) and Taslima Mosar Momin (8 months).

Five others, including four women and a 65-year-old man, sustained injuries but were promptly taken to a local hospital, where they are reported to be in stable condition.

The two storey building was split in two, with the rear one collapsing completely, trapping several people in the debris.

The building, which contained six flats and stood on Durga Road in the Dhobi Talao area of Bhiwandi town, crumbled at 12:35 am, as reported by Yasin Tadvi, the head of Thane Municipal Corporation’s disaster management cell.
