These states likely to receive heavy rainfall and snowfall till February 20: IMD

New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that five places are likely to experience light to moderate rainfall or snowfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning till February 20. These places include Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Muzaffarabad, and Ladakh.

IMD in its latest bulletin quoted, “An intense spell of rainfall or snowfall activity likely over Western Himalayan Region from night of 17th to 22nd February and adjoining plains of northwest India during 19th-22nd February 2024.”

As per the forecast, Jammu and Kashmir is likely to experience light to moderate rain or snowfall accompanied with thunderstorm and lightning at most places on 18th February. Very heavy rainfall/snowfall likely at isolated places on 19th. Meanwhile, the union territory might receive heavy rainfall or snowfall at isolated places on 18th and 20th February. Hailstorm at isolated places likely over Jammu Division on 18th February.

Meanwhile, for Himachal Pradesh, the IMD predicted, “Light to moderate rain or snowfall accompanied with thunderstorm and lightning at a few places on 17th; at many places on 18th; at most places on 19th February. Very heavy rainfall or snowfall likely at isolated places on 19th; heavy rainfall or snowfall at isolated places on 18th & 20th February. Hailstorm at isolated places likely on 18th and 19th February.”

“Light to moderate rain or snowfall accompanied with thunderstorm and lightning at most places on 19th & 20th; at a few places on 18th. Very heavy rainfall or snowfall likely at isolated places on 19th; heavy rainfall or snowfall at isolated places on 20th February. Hailstorm at isolated places likely during 18th–21st February,” IMD forecasted for Uttarakhand.

At the same time, Punjab is likely to experience light to moderate rain accompanied with thunderstorm and lightning with gusty winds (40-50 kmph) at many places on 19th and 20th. While, places including Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi are likely to receive light to moderate rain accompanied with thunderstorm and lightning with gusty winds (40-50 kmph) at many places on 19th and 20th February. Hailstorm at isolated places likely over Haryana on 19th and 20th February.
