The Rajya Sabha passes three criminal bills
As per the new bills terrorism offences included into a general crime law for the first time. Besides, it recommends to drop the crime of sedition, and makes mob lynching punishable by death.
New Delhi: The Rajya Sabha on Thursday passed the three criminal bills — The Bharatiya Nyaya (Second) Sanhita, 2023, The Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha (Second) Sanhita, 2023 and The Bharatiya Sakshya (Second) Bill, 2023 — replacing the IPC, the CrPC and the Evidence Act. Earlier on Wednesday the three criminal bills were passed in the Lok Sabha.
It is to be noted that the Bharatiya Nyaya (Second) Sanhita Bill (BNSS) will replace the Indian Penal Code, 1860; the Bharatiya Sakshya (Second) Bill (BSS) will replace the Indian Evidence Act, 1872; and the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha (Second) Sanhita Bill (BNSSS) will replace the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898.
