Over 90 passengers suddenly fell sick due to food poisoning on a special train between Chennai and Palitana of Gujarat.

Gandhinagar: Over 90 passengers suddenly fell sick due to food poisoning on a special train between Chennai and Palitana of Gujarat.

The sick passengers were immediately attended by doctors at Pune railway station in Maharashtra on Tuesday evening and were provided with necessary treatment. The train resumed its journey after 50 minutes.

The special train ‘Bharat Gaurav’ was privately booked by a group for a religious function at Palitana in Gujarat, informed the Central Railway’s chief public relations officer Dr Shivraj Manaspure.

According to reports, the group of passengers consumed the food they brought and it was was not supplied by the Railways or the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC).

Speaking to media, a Railway official said, “Around 80 to 90 passengers from a coach complained of food poisoning between Solapur and Pune. They complained of nausea, loose motions and headache.”

“At Pune station, a team of doctors attended to all the passengers and provided them treatment on board,” the official added.

“The train departed after 50 minutes. The condition of all the passengers was stable,” the official further stated.
